Japanese Navy, Sea Mine, disposal.

Gents,
The item in the attachment is a Japanese (Could be German supplied) devise for exploding Sea mines it was streamed between 2 ships on a cable and when it caught on to a seamine it was detonated, the one in the picture was made safe in 1967 and we passed on to the Penang State Museam (Part of my collection) the other attachment shows our rather hit & miss method of getting shot of the 88 powder fill, but we were drinking "Tiger"
Please can some body find it's correct name & if possible marking, These I will send to the museum for them to up date. I also have more pictures of items donated to the museum by us that require marking & info.

My copy of OpNav 30-3M Handbook of Japanese Explosive Ordnance, 15 Aug 1945 (U.S.) says this thing is a Mark 2 Mod 1 Explosive Hook, containing up to 33 Lb.s of Type 88 Explosive with Shimose fillings also reported. It was detonated electrically from a towing ship when it hooked something. The Mark 2 Mod 0 was reported to have a combination firing mechanism that could be fired electrically or by tension when it hooked something. No information on markings. The photo looks just like yours, but black and white.

Although termed a 'contact mine' in reality it is mine sweeping cutter.
