Is this thing on eBay a fuze or not?

It looks like a nozzle or the tip of a flame thrower type mixing nozzle.

I've never see a fuze with a bayonet system for fixing it on an ammunition !

Well, somewhen is always the first time.

Though the shown item could be still something else.

Guys pleae look into early torpedo fuze designs of Schwarzkopf and Whitehead (and the many copies, licencs and derivates) before we will hear about anal probes next.

Please don't remind me about cavity probes . I just had one & noticed the doctor still had both his hands on my shoulders......

Think you could be onto something there. The slots in the top could be for vanes.

Mystery solved! Mostly. Not sure what its real name/number is, but it's the pointy end of a torpedo. Found this pic in the lot taken back during my UK trip. At the RN Sub. museum.

Is anyone planning to visit (or live near) the RN Sub Museum?

I'm curious to find out the details on the pic that Slick posted above - ie country and period. Looks definitely a Schwartzkopf variation with the anti-water cushioning holes in the body and the striker vane slots....

I had intentions of contacting the museum directly and send them the photo above, but there is no email address, only a online form with no attachment capability, and apart from the 28 day wait, they may want to charge 20 quid! (You think for that money they would provide "overnight service!!!!)

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Cheers
Drew

So, I get a message from Drew, who has gone to some effort to get a final ID on this fuze, having contacted the RN sub museum and found they have no reference or that example in their collection.

I go back through the picture collection. The events that day included a visit to both the RN sub and Explosion museums. Went straight from one to the other and it all kind of blends together. I assumed, what with it being torpedo-ish, it was the sub place when it was actually taken at the Explosion museum.

My apologies to Drew, and others, for the bad info.

Rick

In hopes of making amends, here are some assorted pics from that adventure:

Hey Rick,

Not a problem - the RN Museum suggested that your photo was probably taken at the Explosion Museum - awaiting to hear back - hopefully update this thread with the fuze ID! :tinysmile_twink_t:

Great photos!

Thanks
