It's a detonator holder/adaptor for WW1 British Rifle Grenades No2, 24, 35 etc. Tony.

No problem, after looking at some of my books, very similar det holders were used on the No 2,3,4,10,11,20,24,and 35 British rifle Grenades from WW1. Possibly even more. Quite a nice piece as these are often missing from the grenades. Tony.

grenade deto

Thank you every body for your replies but could you give me some more details , I suppose this det/primer is screwed on the grenade body and ....? Has the central vis to be removed ? ....perhaps to place something else
I am a bit ignorant about english primers
Thank you Gents
Phil

Hi Phil, I hope this drawing helps to explain, this is the no 2 grenade, but most of this series work in a similar way. The grenade would come with a plug in place of the holder you have, this is the item in the lower middle of the drawing. To use the grenade, you would remove the plug, screw in the holder and remove the safety pin. On hitting the ground the striker would hit the cap and explode the detonator. The No 2 grenade had quite a strong spring in it and quite often did not work in the mud of the battlefields of WW1. Tony.
