This projectile was recently seen in a museum in Japan.
I don't have measurements, but i'd guess at 75mm.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Pete,

It has a Type 3rd Year time fuse which was commonly used on the 75mm Shrapnel projectiles..........(they also used the Type 5th time fuse as well).

Attempting to "read" the blurry kanji in your photo - the far LHS top 4 characters look like (and that's a big IF) -> "senshahodan" which translate to "tank gun ammunition, and if so would be the Type 3 75mm Tank gun used in the Type 3 Chi-Nu Medium tank.

Robert or Olfa will no doubt jump in and correct my translation inaccuracies! (LOL)

Cheers
Drew

BTW - perhaps next time please get a couple pics of the kanji description - it would certainly assist...............

Thanks for this, i'll get it translated at work next week and see if it's any clearer. It just didn't look very Japanese to me.

How about this one? Again no measurements, but taken at the same place.

this one looks very much like a russian 87 mm shrapnel obr. 1877. You can best imagine if this calibre would fit...
