Identification help. Fuses ???

Hi all.
Many years ago when I was a small boy, I found these two items in a local antiquies shop, I wanted them so saved some pocket money and went back and bought them both. I assume they are some type of bomb fuse, both had been sectioned, I used to have them on a shelf, I then left parents house, they moved with me and have since been in a box in two different house lofts. Untill today. We have our house up for sale and i decided to empty the loft in readyness, when I refound these two and it sparked my interest in finding out exactly what they are, which is how I came accross you guys.
Hopefully someone will be able to give me some answers to what it is i have.
Regards
Mark

Welcome to BOCN . You have a pair of British artillery shell fuzes . Siegfreid.

The first fuze looks to be a no101 and the 2nd is a no106 .
usually you will find stampings on the fuze bodys denoting which type they are ,do any remain ?

I would agree with Spotter, left is a British 101 II which was fitted to high explosive shells of varying calibres, right is a 106 also used on HE shells, also smoke shells again varying calibres. Surprised there are no markings as there is usually at least a crows foot and month/year or model no on both.
Both look really good by the way.

Now you kind people have given me the 101 and 106 numbers I have looked through other peoples posts and images and they are definately the same, so I am very gratefull for your help.
Definately no markings on either and no sign that any have ever been on and polished out or simalar, possibly any markings were on the missing bits were they have been cutaway, does the fact that they have been cutaway make them more or less collectable as I guess they are no longer as they should be ?

Mark

Mark . It makes them more collectable , usually . Those are n't particularly rare fuze types so a good quality sectioned example is a nice find . Mike.

Given that I ca'nt remember what I paid for them (although it had to be not much as was pocket money 30ish years ago) what sort of money are they roughly worth today ?

Hi Mark,
Should fetch 25-35. Try listing them on Specialist Auctions.

Richard

Gone up a bit from what I must have paid then, wish I could remember exactly what i did pay.
I just remember liking and wanting them at the time because they were unusual.

Mark they are nice fuzes and whoever done the cutaway work has done a really good job, nice clean cuts. I would have to agree that 25 - 35 each is about the right price.

Thanks everyone for your information.
I think I'm going to hang onto them (maybe not in the loft again though) I did wonder about selling, but to be honest at the value they are I would rather hang onto them, after all something attracted me to them many years ago.
Think I might do a little polishing up of them though, or will that spoil or ruin them as it seems to do with antiques ?

To keep hold of them is a good decision, they will display well. as for polishing it will not ruin them, it is personal preference. Some collectors like to polish all of their brass and others prefer to leave as is. Personally I would leave those as they are but that is just my opinion.

I would leave these unpolished they have a really nice age patina you wont be able to replace

Hello Mark,

Take a look at the Sticky postings in the fuzes section - Spotter put some useful diagrams there. If you want to sell them I am prepared to buy them from you and I also live in Lincs. If you are interested in selling them to me please pm me.

Regards from Matthew

Sorry, I guess you want to keep them, I only read the first page - nice pieces to have though.

Hum, let see 35 quid for a "professionally done cutaway" fuze equates to approx. $53 AUD !!!!- OK I moving to to the UK - watch out!

Cheers
