could they be "BB cap" rimfire rounds, I do have some but I would have to dig them out to find dimensions???

Possible Acorn gun cartridge.
There was a very small calibre BB gun (FAC required) that was about .17 calibre using just the priming charge of the cartridge to propel a small ball for use against Rats and small vermin which I was told was an "Acorn" gun, sadly I no longer have the round from it to show.
It was very good at taking out Rats up to around 50 yards!

Saloon Pistol?
Hi,
From the size of these, they look as though they might have been used in the 4mm Saloon Pistol. These were small pistols much used indoors (as the name suggests) in continental Europe, probably up to the 1940s, for target shooting. I suspect that the maker was Hirtenberger, as has been suggested.
