G'day guys,

This was posted up in a FB group by a journo who saw it in Kufra, Libya.

I'm stumped. It looks a little bit like a 120mm F-S Yugo/Serbian mortar round, but it isn't. It also has some attributes that remind me of certain 73mm rounds, but none that I can positively ID.

Any ideas much appreciated!

Looks shoulder fired, the fins look typical of the same type of two stage ejection/rocket motor as on the standard RPGs.

It's Chinese. I'm not at work at the moment but will put some info tomorrow if no one beats me.

Regards,

Chris

From the pictures I propose that this is the Chinese Type 78 Rocket Assisted Projectile. I don't have any specs to hand, but I have encountered similar items in other parts of Africa.

Yeah that sounds pretty spot on, actually. Cheers.

Many thanks, Chris. Do you know the Chinese designation for the projectile?

Also, do you mind if I repost these photos to a (closed) Facebook group?

Don't mind if you post them to a forum Rogueadventurer.
EOD I will have a look tomorrow.

EOD buddy of mine in Afhgan told me this item has been seen alot, but doesn't remember its name. But he did say the current ID may be mistaken for the weapon that fires it, the 82mm M-78 recoiless rifle. Hope to hear back from him in the next day or so.
