I want this...

Yeah, that guy does a good job. I'm debating doing a retro E2 build, but I don't know if I want to go through the hassle of the SBR process all over an inch of barrel length. And if you do go the legal 16", even though it is just a little over the real E2 length, it just doesn't look right. Also, the real vinyl coated aluminum stocks aren't exactly that easy to find, and when you do they usually aren't in the best of shape or they are expensive. I already have the A1 spec. receiver, It's just that I don't know if I should go for the retro M16A1 look or the XM177E2 look.
This place does make an exact copy of the sound reducing moderator. http://www.innovativeindustriesllc.com/products/xm177-moderator At $325, it a lot less expensive than an original Colt which I saw listed a while back for $1250.

jrpett,

Yeah, it is a short barrell, Select lower reciever, and a sound suppreser. Total amount just for these items that goes to BATFE: $600! Now, add to it what the manufacturer's price? Or you can do it yourself if you have the right papers needed. Saw a complete model once on Gunbroker for $16,000!

By the way I have the correct vinyl coated rear stock. I got one from "NoDak Spud" a few years ago.

On which one to choose you have to ask yourself if you are going for that Vietnam look (Historical) , MACVSOG, LRRP or just a plain old GI look.

It's a NoDak Spud M16A1 style receiver in the "XM grey" that I have sitting here. I didn't want to go too retro and get an "E1" or earlier style receiver. Was this stock one that they were actually making, or was it a used one that they happened to have for sale at the time? I'm still on the fence if I want to go with the A1 look or the XM177 look. I love the looks of the XM177 flash hider/moderator and I'm leaning towards an XM177E2 look. No full auto or working moderator/suppressor on this build, just the SBR. :( I'll have to start actively looking for parts again.

jrpett, I believe my stock was made by them to exact specifications. I have the one you are seeking. Just went shooting it the other day. I could hit 3 out 5 rounds at a steel target at 150 yards with it. That amazed me because the read deals weren't that accurate past 75 yards. Hey, I still have my NoDak Spud sitting here too. I am thinking that I may put it on my AR-15 and make it a replica M16A1. The upper is an M16A1. But it came without a bolt. I put a regular AR-15 bolt and she worked great. So, I am going for a Safe-Single shot rifle. By the way, are you on AR-15.com?

Yes, I'm on ARFCOM, same username. I'm usually just active on the home town forum. I was just browsing the RETRO forum and saw mention that Essential Arms make a stock that is somewhat close to that on the XM177. It's not vinyl coated, but it does have a glossy finish to it. I don't know, maybe I just just send in a Form 1, and go ahead and do it. Although I'm very seriously considering an M1A. That's the one U.S. military rifle that I don't have in my WWII to current collection. You ever use an M14, or was that impractical for your missions?
