Hi all
Picked up this shell over the weekend
A bit knocked around at the top but as close as I can measure it is 76.5mm and approx 355mm high
I think it a 12pdr-12cwt naval shell markings are below

Could sombody please confirm this or set me straight
many thanks
Graham

No notches I can see
Unfortunatly sombody has tried to do a bit of trench art on the top and started to flair it out
might try and roll it back
Cheers

12pr came in various lenthgs, if you search on them you may get some help in a better identification. probability is its 12cwt though as they are quite common and the others rarer.

Thanks 2pounder
I have done a google on 12pdr but haven't found any info on lenghts, have got a bit from here after searching but nothing that matches this lenght
any suggestion as to sites that may have shell dimentions
Cheers

Kia Ora Graham,

It sounds like a 12pr 12cwt, full length should be 390mm, with cutouts at the neck.
Unfortunatley a lot of these are cut down as people didn't like the look of the 'untidy' cut outs.
I've got a few similar type shells and some have been cut by only 4-6mm to get rid of the cutouts,so end up with nicely headstamped vases!.

cheers
Bob

Yes they did have protruding primers, not easy things to get hold of but they are about.
