I have been trying to figure this out all day...26mm x 88mm Projectile

What do you guys think? It is roughly 26mm in diameter and 88mm long. No markings

It looks to be a miniature of an 18 pdr projectile, especially the driveing band style??? But why??? Maybe some type of promotional/advertising specimen???

Good clue Ozziammo.

Miniture projectiles, see:http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/62887-Mini-8-inch?highlight=mini+inch. This thread shows a miniature 18pdr with the diameter listed as approximately 30mm, lower down on the first page of the thread.

There are also these threads on miniature projectiles: http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/86535-9-1in-AP-capped-miniature-1918?highlight=mini+inch and http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/75768-Miniature-Shell?highlight=mini+inch

Thanks! I guess I never thought about it being something like that!

I just noticed the change in listed diameter, from 27/28mm to around 26mm. That opens the slight possibility of it being an Italian 25mm Fiat - Revelli projectile, but it doesn't quite fit in with anything I have info for. The only other cartridges (that I am aware of) seeing much use (for the age of your projectile) would be the 25mm Nordenfelt and the 25mm Italian - Vickers (25x87mmR). The 25mm Nordenfelt used shorter projectiles. So?????

Agreeing with Ozziammo, it's a miniature replica resembling a 18-pdr shrapnel Shell. Why? - typical memorabilia...

Of course it is worth something-but:

There is no "Book of values" when it comes to ammo related items, because it is such a specialized field that a minority partake, You are able to make whatever value you decide, then it will only sell for what ever a person is willing to pay! I know this doesn't really help you a lot but thems the facts!

I havn't seen any for sale here in Australia, so probably would get a few bidders here!

Regards Ozzi.
