Hiya,
Firstly, I hope i'm posting this in the correct place so here goes,
I received in the post today, my winnings from an auction house many miles from me.

Included in the lot is a linked (metal) belt containing 69 rounds of SPENT, INERT ammunition.
the bases are stamped RG 79 (or) 80 L13A1. the base measures 12mm dia and the length of the round is 67mm, I feel that these are/were blank firing rounds, given the way that they have split, and the narrowness (6mm) of the fractured ends?

These are not something I am particularly interested in as I prefer WW1, and bought the lot for the three WW1 bayonet frogs (v v nice!!)

Here's hoping someone can identify what I have described, and thanks in advance.

You are quite correct in your assumption that these are blanks. As Hicky says, they were made by Radway Green, originally a Royal Ordnance Factory but now part of the British Aerospace empire.

The L13A1 identifies the type, and this followed the L10A2 as the standard 7.62mm blank of the British forces. It has a slightly thinner case and so is more economical than the previous type.

Many thanks to hicky1300 and TonyE, for the rapid response to this query.
It's fascinating that so much information is stored in these stampings, much like the stampings on bayonets, frogs etc, it's all about the data you can find about your particular interest, (7.62mm rounds aren't mine!)

Regards,

Nigel.
