All I know is that it is magnetic and is following the idea of the magnetic mine the Japanese used in WWII (the one with the cloth cover).

It has a green plastic body with black rubber covers on both sides. The magnets are molded into the rubber. (Those are the six groups of three lines you see around the circumference.) The magnets are on both sides of the mine.

The round fuze cap on the side unscrews to expose a metal pull-ring on a string, just like in their stick grenades. I don't know the fuze delay time. On the opposite side of the fuze cap is another screw cap, inset into the body, which I assume is either for the detonator or it's a filler plug, but I don't know. It also has a plastic carry handle on the side.

The body diameter is 165 mm. The height is 60 mm.

It seems to be a simple blast mine, but I don't know for certain.

They're very good info's Rob, Many Thanks. ;-)

In late days I found some other bits about "Type 72 Anti-Tank Granade" (72式反坦克手雷).

Total Weight: 2,0 kg
Charge Weight: 1,35 kg
Explosive: TNT/RDX mix
Penetration: 20 mm (a simple blast charge)
Fuze: Single Pull friction 6'' to 8,5'' delay
Magnet strenght: 150-170 N

There is a improved version, Type 72-II, more light (1,65 kg, charge 1 kg), more safe fuze (double pull friction) with a delay from 6'' to 9,5''.

Thank you for this. I did not have any technical info about this mine/grenade.

I will try to post pictures of this mine in the next few days.

Rob

Here are some pictures. I hope you find these useful. Let me know if you need more pictures, measurements, etc.

The only markings are the black print and a very small "N" molded into one of the rubber pieces. A strip of paper had been glued to the side. You can see remains of it on the rubber pieces in the last picture.

As we are on the subject. Does anybody happen to have deciphered the Chinese year codes they been using for a while?
