Description These cartridges are used against personnel and materiel, providing both fragmentation and blast effect. The complete round consists of a projectile body, a fuze,
Good evening ,
unfortunately I can't enlarge the picture . When I was young and still fit we fired a lot of thes 4"2 shells , if I remember these were cartridges fabricated in the 50's . I can't remember the fuze number . In the late '80 or early '90 these were replaced by the M329 and M329B1 wich had rubber "obturating" rings which were sometimes by unexperienced personnel removed with a lot of problems off course . The shell your showing is a shell for a US 4''2 mortar , it is one a the few mortars that have a twisted barrel , when the shell is ignited the cupper driving band whill follow the twiwts in the barrel .
By the way , though a heavy mortar , shooting results ware almost fabouleus !
