german WWI fuze

I think it was not introduced before war ended. I read about it in the manual for the 15 cm S.K. L/40 i.R.L.

Which information do you have about it?

I only know that it is supposed to have been used with 24 cm Spgr. L/4,2 and 38 cm Spgr. L4,1

I have to correct myself, it was the 17 cm K.i.R.L. & 17 cm Eisenbahnkanone. In the 1918 manual the fuze key and fuze setting key is mentioned but the fuze itself is missing. A later addition to the manual quotes that the setting key can be used for the "60 second mechanical time fuzes" too by multiplicating the time with 2/3 (they mean the Dopp.Z.16 o.A.Z.). They write that the U.Z. S/90 will be introduced later.

The manual is also not much accurate as they call this fuze Dopp.Z. S/90 on the title page but on the fuze key is written U.Z.S/90 (I think Uhrwerks-Znder = clockwork fuze)

Conclusion: The shape of the Dopp.Z./U.Z. S/90 must be the same like the Dopp.Z.16.

If we can trust the data sheet of the 24 cm Spgr. L/4,2 mit haube Kopf und Bodenznder it seems that U.Z.S/60 and Dopp.Z.16.o.Az. are two different fuzes.

No, not really - The 17 cm gun manual quotes, that this U.Z. fuze will be introduced "later" and the manual is from 1918. And there were fuze setting keys with this designation stamped on - I guess they wouldn't have produced special keys for training purpose :)

U.Z. S/90 o. Az

Here is some information I have found in my records. I do not speak french but perhaps you know someone who does. It also mentions several other fuzes in connection with this one.

the translation of the french text is:

(Talking about Dopp. Z. 17 o.Az. and U. Z. S /90 o. Az.)

These two fuzes seem to differ only by the headstamp. Their time mechanism is similar to that of the double effect fuze N 74 (Dopp. Z. 16).
They differ from this last fuze by the following points:
1 The tail of N 74 fuze, containing the percussion system, is replaced by a drilled zinc plug closing a black powder room (flame relay):
2 The maximum setting time and the duration of a complete revolution of the main axis are respectively 60 and 66 seconds for fuze N 74 and 90 and 98 seconds for fuzes N 55 (Dopp. Z. 17 o.Az.) and 55 bis (U. Z. S /90 o. Az.).

Thanks for the translation Pascal. I have a fuze stamped Dopp Z 16 without the "tail" but with the zinc plug.
