Cheers Mad B)

They were usualy fitted with a zz42 or zz35 igniter. They came in a box of 6. When made scrap bits of metal was added for the shrapnel effect.

These mines could be locally made in occupied countries usually by the French. Usualy While they were making bunkers and had some spare concrete on hand to knock out a few of these. I have been told they were very effective. A veteran once told me that the buggers used to put them in ditches so they were about head height when kneeling in a ditch so if you set one off it went off in your ear so to speak.
They were also tied to trees, posts etc with wire with out using the stick. Always used in a trip wire setup.

In the channel islands the stock mines were made out of earthenware pipes ,the sort used as underground water pipes ,there are several examples in the occupation museum Forest , Guernsey which were recovered by the police in the 1950,s

Those that were recovered from Guernsey all had the ZZ42 igniter in them , although the books mention that the zz35 (brass ) bodied could be used , with the bakelite ZZ42 they were almost undetectable .

German B1 mine

The mine shown here is was locally produced , during the German occupation of the channel islands June 1940 to may 1945 t was produced out of wood and contained the standard 200 gram demo charge as used in the infamous Shu mines
and usedthe standard ZZ42 igniter (the one shown (ZZ35)) was the only one available to me at the time )there have been no originals found other than bits of them this example was reproduced for me using an original drawing found in the archives known as the B1

the original receipt for industrial production was:

1.500gr steelsplinters of 2,5 - 3,5gr each
400gr sand and stone chippings
200gr cement

they where colored in sand, dark green or anthrazite.
