This SF 5 TYPE A BUCKZUNDER is so incredibly rare!!!! Due to their fragile construction they just dont last if they were left in the ground & they are so fragile that they dont often last period!!!

Adding this to my museum collection is a milestone for me.

To the person whom I bought it from you know who you are. Im forever in your debt..DANKE!

Description: The igniter consists of a thin aluminium alloy foil drum containing a glass ampule of sulfuric acid and a white powdered flash composition containing naphtalene. The drum is crimped to facilitate crushing from vertical pressure. The glass ampule is fuzed to the top of the drum with pitch. A waterproof paper disc confines the flash composition powder in the igniter and prevents moisture from entering. The drum is secured to the brass base by crimping and a rubberized washer is placed around the threaded portion of this base. The thread is standard and will fit any German booby trap and demolition device.

Operation: When pressure is applied, the foil drum is dented and the ampule is broken. The sulfuric acid contained in the ampule mixes with the powdered flash composition and the flash resulting from the chemical reaction fires the detonator.

Employment: This igniter has been used principally with the antipersonnel pot mine, but is adaptable for use with any type of German booby trap or demolition device.

That's a real cracker, Glen.
Reason enough to say a big congrats to the new owner. :congrats:

Lucky find you have there. I have the brass base with washer and glass vial but no top. The top being a similar material to an alloy toothpaste tube. The grove in the brass base is where the metal top crimps into and is sealed with a bitchemen sealant.

Gongratulations, you must be over the moon. Considering everything you said about how frail these are you example looks very good indeed!!

all the best Kev

What you all need to do is keep your eyes open at junk sales and look for the old Pill ( tablet ) tubes, i have found them very helpful in the past with repairing 1940's ordnance,,,,,,,, Dave

I need a few more fuzes/igniters to complete the museum collection some Kipzunder and clockwork igniters, the J feder 504 being the last one to get being the most expensive,
