german projectile designation

Hi,
In a recent thread I came upon the designation system of ammunition used by the Germans late during the WW2.
It does not correspond with the earlier numbering system where each type of equipment had a group, sub-group and a type number (13 – ammunition, 51 - base fuzes, 27 - type number). Sometimes this code was transferred to the designation of materiel (we all know the cartridge case designation (13)6346), but mostly not (13 – ammunition, 14 – granaten 10 bis 14 cm, 24 - Feldhaubitz Granate Fern).
Think about this as a stock number for supply purposes (like NSN) rather than a drawing number.
The projectiles were designated by weapon or caliber, type and number sometimes with suffix (10cm Gr 19 / sJgr 38 Nb)
The new projectile designation is different. The model number was replaced by a four digit number which meaning I am not able to decipher.
Here are some examples I could quickly find:
28cm R Gr 4331
8cm WHlGr 4462
38cm R Sprgr 4581
38cm R Hl Gr 4592
31cm Sprgr 4861
21cm Wgr 5004
21cm Spl. Be. Wgr 5021
12,8cm Spr Gr 5151
I am sure there are many more.
Is there a complete list of these? Is there a system to the designation?
Is there any recommended reading on this topic?

I will be thankful for any suggestions.

Ian Hogg's book "German Artillery of WWII" generally lists the 4-digit number for each gun. The 4-digit number for the gun was stamped on the heads of the cartridge cases. Numbers were also assigned to all captured foreign guns, so they could coordinate manufacturing and supplying ammo to each weapon. I believe the German manufactured cartridge cases for these guns were stamped with the appropriate 4-digit code.

The book was reprinted about 10 years ago. ISBN 185367480X

Yes I have this book, quite worn by now.
The "design number" in table 1 of Hoggs book reffers to the case only.
the manual D97 lists the Gerätnumer for all military materiel and the 13-63-xx is reserved for cartridge cases. On the case are only the last four numbers marked.
(5-07 32 is the stock number for 7,5cm Pak 40 the case number is 13-63 40)
All this is part of the "old" system that is quite simple. The "new" projectile designation does not follow the rules. The four digit number might be some kind of blueprint, project or development number.
