German B1 Incendiary inquiry

morsey

Member
HI All,
I have just purchased a B1 Incendiary and thought that it had all or some of the fuse mechanism inside. However when i unscrewed the end cap what i found inside was an aluminium tube that fits very snuggly inside the main body as if was a purpose made fitting. 164mm long, 29mm o/d, 25mm i/d, 7mm long taper on the end that went at the fin end, a disc of aluminium is placed as a tight fit 19mm down the tube from the cap end. I have not seen this on any drawing or cut away or sectioned bomb. see attached pictures. SAM_0796.jpgSAM_0797.jpg
On the forum various contributors have explained the markings and thank you for that. How did the date letters works G = 1935 J = 1937 does 1936 = H? 1938 = K?
regards morsey

I dont have with me the letters/years table, but if I dont remember bad K was 1934, there is no order between letters and years. Two pics of stamped markings on tails.

Hi morsey

The tube contained the main charge of thermite which ignited first.........see the attatched post - (which will also be useful to you to see how the different internals fit together.)

Would love to see some pictures of the one you have.

Agree with Tmine35. Either it is the photograph or something is wrong with the item.

i had a look at the attached post you kindly provided and very well explained it is BUT the lovely cut away does not show this tube that i have. i could understand the thermite being in it as it is a tightish fit in the body. is the disc that is in it a spurious item that should not be there at all? OR am i being unusually thick. Someone else mentioned this tube in one of the threads and so it must exist but i have mot seem much proof yet.
regards
