Gatling Gun

I was watching an episode of "Pawn Stars" the other day and a Gatling Gun of all things was offered up for sale to the pawn shop. This Gatling Gun was a fully operational piece and the condition was superlative. The owner was asking $330,000 us for this fine gun and turned down the 220,000 that Rick offered up. WOW. The same seller later offered up a 37mm rotating barrel gun from I believe the late 1800's or so. Again operational and a beautimus piece to say the least. I spaced out the pricing part and am not sure if it sold or not. These were 2 rare guns with a healthy asking price, but sweet to see these obvious pieces of history in their beautiful form. I wish I had bottomless pockets...Dano

WOW! There's some really rich people out there.
I was recently at an arms show and had a quick look at an antique gun stall whilst on my way to the shell/grenade stall. The guns at the front were about 5000 and some at the back 13000. You'd get a nice shell collection for that and an amazing one for the price of a Gatling gun.
Dave.

your not on youre own there.theres a few items i doudt il be buying anytime soon :)
cheers Darrol

I saw the same episode and it was really upsetting. I personaly would of taken the $200,000. Unbelievable sometimes on that showat times. Some days I just wish I would win the Powerball. It would be INERT Grenades to all of my friends!

A surprising quirk of American gun law allows one to possess any sort of hand-cranked "gatling gun" under the same conditions as any other civilian rifle under 1/2" bore diameter. Theoretically, one could coble together a hand-cranked version of the GE minigun in 7.62mm NATO & sell it to any qualified adult through the local gunshop - just so long as it is not "readily convertable" to fully automatic.

As for true gatling guns though, both originals from the 1800s and their modern reproductions command steep prices and quite rare.

Even more surprisingly, I believe hand-cranked gatling guns are legal here in the UK. As far as I know, the condition is that as long as one complete rotation of the handle fires only one round, it is classed as a manually opeated weapon.

in the uk i'm led to believe one could get a gadget that went in the trigger guard of a self loader that hand cranked and made it very rapid but they are now illegal, just imagine it on a battery drill!!!!

I saw the episode too, a fantastic Gatling gun. But very, very pricey.

It should be in a museum, for all to see.

Back in the mid to late 70's I was at a Gun Show in Salt Lake City, where a local guy had his "Bulldog" Gatling gun displayed. The "Bulldog" is equivalent to the "carbine" version of the Gatling Gun. It is more rare, being shorter than and lighter than the normal full sized version, and only has 5 barrels. In addition, the barrel jacket and outer covering of the whole gun is made of brass. At that time (Late 70's) the owner told me the Bulldog was worth $30,000.00 and that a normal full size Gatling was worth $10,000.00. I wonder what a Bulldog version is worth now?

They did another show last night and showed a hotchkiss 37mm revolving cannon in action.[h=3][/h]

You know who is good with these kind of things is to watch "Red Jacket Firearms" on the Discovery Channel. He will almost take anything and check it out before he gets to fire it, regardless of who owns it at times. Great show. Like it better than "American Gun". Early Vietnam usage on "Puff the Majic Dragon" used hand cranked Gatling guns or am I thinking about the ammo loading?

One other item, I had the privilege of firing a 7.62x51 Gatling gun made by Dillon. Gosh was it loud.
