G2 140mm Howitzer.

Can anyone confirm for me that the Iraqi Army in the 1991 Gulf War had the G2 140mm Howitzer. Im puzzled as i have two really tall brass shell cases which i was sure were 152mm calibre but having just checked they are 140-mm! These were brought back by 2nd Scots Battlegroup from the Gulf in 1991. It seems there were two types of 140-mm artillery shell case, a short one and very tall one and i have two very tall ones. Are these G2 shell cases as ive seen one or two in books listed as 152-mm cases and its confusing as they look sameas mine????? Regards, Tim.

Are you thinking of the British BL 5.5" gun? Known as the G2 in South African service? Iraq did have them, but that gun uses bagged charges and not a case so the case must be from another 140mm gun system.

Any markings left on the cases? A lot of the Iraqi stuff was heavily marked, either by them or when it was sold to them.

G2 140mm Gun.

The two big cases i have have lots of black stencilled numbering on them and Russian letters so they must have been Soviet supplied like the 57mm S60 Anti Aircraft gun and M1939 37mm AA gun which i also have cases from that came back from 1991 Gulf War. The two big 140-mm's i have must have come from another Iraqi 140-mm as the G2 140-mm used bag charges. Theres not much on the net about this sort of thing so thanks guys for the feedback on this as its very usefull info.

Photo's ?

Jagd can you take a few pictures of them;-
Side view with rule for scale
Base details or headstamp
Primer detail
And any thing else such as writing/stencils
Pctures make these things easier to identify if you can take some.

Will try and get photos posted tommorow if possible of the cases in question and thanks all.
