Here is a British looking fuze I am trying to Identify from the Aberdeen Ordnance Museum.

Dia: 45MM
Length: 49MM
Exposed: 27MM

Any ideas? As you can see the NO 2498 arcoss the top. Not sure if thats it, although it could be. If it is, anyone have any information on it?

And if nothing else ... everyone gets to take a look.

Joe

Joe,

Yes definitely a Japanese Navy Type 5th year Impact fuse as Alpini has correctly stated.

What's interesting is the "No 2498" across the top - this seems to be "out of character" and perhaps is a Museum /Army catalog ID marking stamp? - the different in size compared to the kanji also leds me to believe this may be the case......although I'm not sure??? (haven't seen this on any of my other Japanese fuzes from memory.........)

In addition, the kanji stamping on the top is also interesting - the two I have are stamped on the side and the font stamp size is the same for both the numerals and the kanji characters....maybe just different arsenal stamping methods? (Both of mine are from the Kure Arsenal)

Cheers
Drew

BTW - the gaine is also stamped "Type 5th Year" Showa 17/7 (July, 1942)

Thanks guys.

Between the museum and old Army intell markings that were added to the fuzes, sometimes they throw you off when identifying them. And since I haven't seen every fuze out there, its nice to bounce them off others who might have seen them.

I will be posting more in the next few weeks as I go through more of the pictures we took.

Drew,

Those are some great pictures, Mind if I use them in the EOD publication to show the markings? The images we have don't have the markings as clear as your do.

Hi Joe,

Yes of course you may certainly use them - PM me if you like higher resolution ones.

Cheers
