Purchased this nice pair of candle holders from local auction. I would like to learn what origin these fuzes are, I can't find them in my WW2IMG_0970.jpgIMG_0969.JPGIMG_0971.jpg books of items being used here. They strip into pieces but are totally unmarked.

The top fuze has max diameter 35mm, thread 25,6mm and visible body length 78mm. The small threaded part to attach on time fuze is soft soldered and may be added later on.

The time fuze diameter is 79mm and length 42mm. The thread part of time fuze has been cut off, in one with hack saw and in the other by turning in lathe.
Time set ring is tin coated brass. Coating is original but it covers the gradiation and numbers being unreadable.

They both are standing on 3 round lead balls, one on 22mm diameter balls and thge other on 24mm diameter balls. Could these balls be from a large schrapnel?

Hi,

all four are old Russian fuzes. The two large ones should be time fuzes model 1884г. The two smaller ones may be models 1884г percussion fuzes or may be cut "17 ГМ" percussion fuzes. The pieces which are hopefully soldered into the bottom of the percussion fuzes may be the detonators for the larger time fuzes. If you can remove them and they are not damaged it can be possible to complete the large time fuzes. The place where the fuzes come from was filled with large shrapnel balls for sure ;-)

Thanks Alpini:smile: It would be very logical that they are Russian as we have had them here.

The percussion fuze looks like Filimonoff m/1884 - there seems to be at least 2 variations of it. Unfortunately my source has no dimensions. Inside of the upper part is machined to fit the candle, therefore no internal detais are visible.

Does anyone have a drawing of m/1884 time fuze?

As the fuzes are already spoilt and all internal parts are missing I'll not restore them but remain as candle holders.

I was wondering the large lead balls, normally I see here only 12-14mm balls coming from 76mm schrapnels. From which caliber the large balls can be?
