Fuze I.D Please - Early Proximity Fuze??

Darren

A new addition to the fuze collection and i am looking for an id and info. Ive never seen anything like this before, looks to be some sort of early proximity fuze, perhaps prototype? No markings apart from a small X

Any ideas?

Having the RF transparent window on the side is very odd. All the VT/CVT fzes I've ever come across have a non-metallic nose cone so that they can emit the RF energy forwards and receive the reflection back, ensuring that the fragments from the burst, which go forwards and outwards, are towards the target. Then there's the problem of how the brass nose is connected to the fuze body if the side window fronts some weird TX/RX device.

Is defiantly an odd one, still cannot find anything on it, I've searched the entire forum and not seen anything similar.

I have no idea what your fuze is but I question whether or not it is a proximity design. The metallic ogive would pretty much keep it from operating in a proximity mode. That would make it some sort of VT fuze, would it not?

Of course, I'm just speculating.

After a lot of searching around on the Internet today I came across a photo of a similar fuze, no info with the photo but I'm trying to find out more.
