Frustrating Auctions on GB

There is a seller listing a number of decent looking items ON GB in the U.S.
But it is totally frustrating to any one interested. Starts them low but ties them
into a stupid reserve or buy it now. So nobody bids against another bidder but bid against the owner. Few items sell though a U-Boat 88 did sell, but that seems to be the exception and presumably very hard to find. Looks like a big fishing expedition to me and a waste of time to all interested parties. GB is a good site but I find most of the ordnance absurdly priced and unfortunately they let it repeat and all you see is the same things over and over. I hope this guy isn't a member here.

My rant for the day :xd:

Ow I know what you mean! Very very annoying. On top of that, try complaining afterwards. I bought a relatively expensive item (shell case) that turned out to be cromated, not visible on the image nor mentioned in the add. I was told that this is why he does not like to sell overseas. Apparantly only oversea collectors complain about rip offs according him ;-).

The seller on GB you mention did sell a German 88mm Flak 18 AP round for $905. It is probably the nicest 88mm in the US with a 1931 dated brass case.

His quality generally looks good, but a lot of obvious repaints and he did sell an 88 Uboat round, the best always goes. He under photographs things so it's buyer beware. One British fuze a scarce one has a hole in the top and perhaps all the way through - exlamp
material and worthless, but no mention of that. I get the feeling of not a deep knowledge of things just a large accumulation.
He will get to keep 90% of it.

I agree his (name is Bob) knowledge seems to be basic, at best. I did buy a Pak 38 50mm casing from him on the buy it now option - paid way too much. But, it is very nice. He does not communicate well either. He did say this was his life time collection he is selling, and it is like seeing old friends pass away to sell them.

This item is listed as a German 75mm HEAT round. It is most definitely not German. I am guessing it is Romanian, Hungarian or Bulgarian.

Hungarian I believe.

All three items bought by the same buyer. Money seems to not be an issue with him.

I always think we are fortunate with our hobby because relative to other areas of militaria (collecting medals for example where rare items run into many tens of thousands of pounds) it is fairly inexpensive to collect. OK some things are available for many hundreds of pounds with the odd thing over a thousand but nice things can still be bought for very little.

Dave.
