This case with MT on it is for a type of French Trench Mortar I'm told.
Does any one have a picture of this or other details? There maybe a post on this someplace?
This case is also used on Drill rounds.
Yes the same as any other. How they look after firing would depend on how sloppy the chamber was, but also they would be recycled and could end up with any of the common French projectiles in them later. Apparently there is a steel transit cap that goes on them for the Mortar. It would seem that this MT mark was discontinued after 1916 so they would be identified by a stencil, packing and the box there after. I have seen more MT cases used for drill rounds than loose. The MT mark was after the initial use likely confuzing when or if the case was reloaded and would require picking MT cases out of returns and so on, extra work which was really unnecessary if the cases weren't marked MT. This of course is a disaster from a collecting stand point because after 1916 we can no longer identify a Trench Mortar case from any other ! And the steel cap if you have one could be stuck on any old case ~
