These just arrived today,not in bad shape for nearly 100 years old. They disassemble with lots of neet bits and pieces inside.No chemicals and Inert of course,,,

I seem to be on a WWI stuff lucky streak. Which I just probably jinxed by saying that.

Can anyone ID these?? German Im thinking? And the smaller aluminum colored one is missing a nose cap??

HI Lou,

The 'minenwerfer' (mine thrower), is a rifled mortar, manufacture of which commenced in 1908-09.

BTW - Nice finds!!!! {I'm turning Hulk Green again! :tinysmile_angry_t:}

Nice find Lou! I hadn't realised you were into the old stuff.

Thanks for showing them.

Dave.

Nice info guys.

And Im not really into the older stuff,just kinda happened to see them and was offered a good price so I thought Id get them. Kinda glad I did. I never realised how "elegant" and "regal" these things look when in hand. Strange words to describe ordnance fuzes I know,but with the flowing lines,metal combinations,gothic style stamped/etched letters and numbering, dang things are almost "artsy".

There doesnt seem to be much info reguarding what the projectiles that went into these "minenwurfers" looked like?

Theres some seriously nice cuts and information there. Thanks..... Seems alot or most of what you see is ground dug. Nice stuff for sure,,,

Amazing:

I am often amazed at the quality of ordnance and member information to freely given on BOCN. I only wished I could get some answers to some of the real old stuff. :)

Lou, There are many variations of the Minenwerfer fuzes. Pictured here is my light minenwerfer (76mm) fuze which is all brass, and also my med/heavy minenwerfer fuze which leaves much to be desired (filler till better one comes along)....Dano

Hey Dan,how about some close pics when you have time. And your heavywurfer fuze,whats the tip made of? I like the brass wurfer fuze too.Would be a neet variation to go with the one I have.

Lou, This is the best I can do with my archaic equipment. The tip of my heavy minenwerfer fuze is iron or some sort of alloy, which I think had coroded and prev. owner used body filler to bring it back to shape, but were also made of brass and other materials. Mine are all missing safety clip that fit in top. There are literally scores of variants of the Minenwerfer fuzes and a fine collection could be made of the MW fuzes alone. Again my heavy Mienwerfer fuze is a filler till a better one comes along, but hey it is an example and it was crazy cheap to buy. Picture 5 is a better heavy minenwerfer fuze. Look on GWM site and you will find some fine variants there...Dano

I recently picked up a 76 MW message projectile stuck in a 77 artellery case at a show in Utah. As you can see, it has the same LWM Zdr 2 fuse.
