Finish or Russian 7.62x39 dummy

Hi to all,
trying to 'pin' this dummy 7.62x39 down to where it was made, it is typical of the type made by Finland but usualy they are headstamped VTP or SAT? and date(I do have a 7.62x54R version of these) but this 7.62x39 is headstamped 711 60 which would indicate it was made by the Russian State Ammunition Factory,Poldolsk,Russia.
I can not find any refrence to dummys of this type being made by Russia,so could it be that Finland possibly re-used Russian cases to manufacture these dummy rounds?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Tony

Definitely Finnish, made from Russian cases.

Only the Finns made this style of drill round, in 7.62x54mm, .303 inch and 9 x19mm as well as 7.62x39mm.

Many thanks once again TonyE
Another one to put to 'bed', the 303 was bit of a suprise, have you any info on Finish use of it please?

All the best
Tony

The Finnish Air Force had both Vickers and Lewis guns in .303 inch calibre. They were used in a number of aircraft including Gloster Gladiators.

They loaded ball, tracer, AP and explosive in .303, with VPT headstamps from the late 1930s to 1941.

You don't find Finnish 7,62x39 cases marked SAT as this marking was in use only in early 1920's. You find them marked VPT or SO plus year.

Ans also without manufacturer, just with caliber and year for some export contracts to some Arab countries.

Many thanks TonyE and Tmine35,
I was led to believe that VPT were used by the military and that SAT were for civil defence ect,so many thanks for putting me straight on that one.
I have also come across a 7.62x39 with PT and date any ideas?

Cheers

Yes Tony,
you may find these cases marked PT as well. This is a shortcut from VPT for certain reasons. As I'm no specialist in SAA I can't answer you right away but have to look my books first.
In general VPT is military marking for rounds made by Lapua, for civil use they are marked LAPUA. SO is military marking for Sako, for civil use they are marked SAKO.
