Fifty thousand dollar trench rifle

I was watching "Cajun Pawn Stars" last night and on the show appeared a rifle that i'd heard of but never seen. The rifle was the '03 Springfield. Attached to the rifle was a mechanism that allowed the gun to be fired accurately with your head well below trench level. I wish I had a picture. Appearantly it was a prototype of sorts and was developed too late to see any war-time use. It basicly extended the trigger and apparatus downward with a periscope so the enemy could be shot without exposing yourself whatsoever. Anyway, the seller wants fifty thousand (dollars) for it. The pawn guy offers 30 thousand, then 35 thousand, then 40 thousand, then 45 thousand. The Cajun pawn dude did shell out the 50 grand for it. Condition was excellent and it fired beautifully. From below trench level the blew the hell out of a full pop bottle. It was a really sweet looking gun. I am at the library now and headed to GOOGLE the p___ out of it to see what I can dig up. It was a really SWEET piece...Dano out (still avidly collecting WW1 but computerless at the moment)Hope all is well with all you fine folks. Of all I lost I miss my mind the most. Teresa and I got into somewhat of a tiff with our new next door neighbors over of all things the property line. The neighbor lady should not have called Teresa a b tch and a wh re, nor should she have threatened to "snap Teresas scrawny ass little neck. Teresa ran to her house, kicked open her door whilst wielding a butcher knife. This is no joke as Teresa is charged with home invasion and attempted murder. Other than that things have been less than eventful

Hi Dano,Thanks for the info about the 03 Springfield,I have seen pics of british soldiers in the trenches (ww1) firing a similar system using SMLE .303s,the nonchalant way in which the firer was operating the setup made it look an effective sighting device,
I hope your home situation is resolved in an amicable way and the charges against Teresa are dropped,
Thoughts are with you and yours Dano,
Regards,
Don,

One thing to keep in mind about reality television shows like "Cajun Pawn Stars" is that while they may have some factual basis these shows are contrived and orchestrated to draw and to try and keep a television audience. This usually means that reality and the truth are, shall we say, subject to manipulation for the sake of show ratings.

The Germans issued one also. These are old images of the one I had. Made from sheet steel, painted in the typical green. It folds up and has a place for spare mirrors. Shrapnel hole in the side of it. If I recall I tried it and it jumped quite a bit if my memory serves me correctly.
