This just arrived via a huffing & puffing FEDEX delivery guy. Not sure what it weighs, but two manly-men can carry up some stairs. And then scoot it thru the house to an open space large enough for unveiling. On a side note, a real crappy packing job, but short of a wooden crate, this is practical. Luckily, no apparent damage in shipping, so there's that. This was traded for by my son and shipped here. He's due back in CONUS the end of this month and will take possession soon thereafter. 'til then, IT'S MINE - ALL MINE!!!! His plans are to turn it into an office chair. Whatever. I just hope he restores it.
According to assorted labeling and info on the web, this ESCAPAC IC-6 was utilized by the navigator in a B-57 (Canberra). I'm guessing '60s-'70s era. Maybe earlier, but there's a 73 in one of the serial numbers, so it might be that. The US flew RB-57s all thru the Viet Nam misunderstanding, so it might fall in that time range.
There looks to be at least two CADs in the system, per some labeling, although a cursory exam proved no evidence of shells/cases ;-( And, of course, there's no rocket motor ---double :-( Maybe someone here can offer specifics on those items.
Anyway, an interesting item to have sitting in the middle of the "formal" living room, which pleases the wife to no end.
