Tidying the book shelf was delayed by tripping over:
"7.10.81 Minute 40,084
DEFECTIVE SMALL-ARM AMMUNTION OF INDIAN MANUFACTURE
Senior Ordnance Store Officer, Natal and Transvaal, 13.7.81 forwards the proceedings of two regimental and one station Board, on some unserviceable Martini-Henry ammunition brought from India by the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment and the 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders. This ammunition, all of which was made at Kirkee, was condemned by the Boards unreservedly. The powder was caked and damp, and there were frequent missfires. He proposes to forward the whole of the Kirkee ammunition (which has been exchanged for that of Royal Laboratory manufacture) to Woolwich as the opportunity may occur."
Pensioner ATs may remember history repeating itself close to 100 years later (indeed some may remember the original incident).
