Cordite Carrier

Good Afternoon!

I'm new to this site and joined so that I could, hopefully, find out more about an item that I purchased at a Goodwill in the USA. Can anyone please tell me more about the cordite carrier pictured below? Very interesting piece.

Thanks so much,
Ashley

P.S. Hopefully I posted this correctly. Tricky to navigate this site. :)

It is a Clarkson container and although this appears in the Royal Navy's Handbook of Ammunition BR 932 1945 edition, these containers were in use from before WWI and provided the navy still had a BL gun charge that fitted they kept on using it.
The 4.5" case was used for years and the gun size sometimes appears on the container, which is made of leather.

The last time I worked with one of the containers was for the 6" BL MK 23 gun It was fitted to most of the WW2 cruisers You can still find them on HMS Belfast
