Car handed down

This 1986 Toyota Corolla SR5 (last of the rear wheel drive Corollas) was given to me by my mom as she can't drive anymore. She bought it in 89 so she's had it 21 years. I ordered a pair of quarter panels and a left front fender along with a gallon of Imron white pearl. The guts are good as it looks as though it has never been sat in. 112,000 miles (well maintained) barely broke in. The A/C don't work so I need to put a compressor, expansion valve and drier to cure that. I just can't let this one go. Will update as progress (teardown) commences...Dano

Nice one Dano,

hope you can keep her on the road. I have my mum's Mazda 626, 10 year old 2 ltr GSI with 21k mileage. Goes very well. Ive had it up to 130 with more to go[ile plead the 5th here lol]. I have a 17 year old Citroen BX too that i have to tinker with to keep her on the road but doing very well at the moment, touch wood.

Keep up the good work bud.

Andy

Nice. Real nice. 130K, like you say, ain't even broke in.
Hint: That half push shutter button thing works on the long shots, as well.

Hi Dano

Almost a UK spec corolla and seems to have sufferered less rust than our Uk versions.

Must be a sentimental little car and let us know how it all goes

Always a pleasure

Hi Andy

We have a K 92 BX estate for running about jobs and apart from the spheres playing up occasionall its been a real plugger :tinysmile_shy_t: but we have had nearly half a ton in it, on to many occasions:tinysmile_twink_t:

Best phil

Yes Phil, Means alot to me. I just don't know what to do with it when it's done though I feel compelled to do it. May give it to my daughter. The only thing I can't order are the deck lid (boot) decals. I guess i'll remove the trunk and take it to a custom graphics house in the hope they can make the decals. I included a few more pics and also pics of a 95 Chevrolet S10 I bought at auction for 950.00us. It ran terrible and has OBD1 diagnostics so I ran the test, called it in and it needed a throttle body (TBI) unit. I figured to go 1000.00 on it and got it just under that. I got a Holly replacement TBI unit and that was 1000.00 and put Flowmaster exhaust on it. It has under 100,000 miles and has been great. My wife has a 98 Escort she bought new in 98 and will drive nothing else. So I guess my daughter (Danielle) will get the Corolla. Heck she has always liked the car anyway...Dano

Corolla gone

Well my stepson, Mike had his engine throw a rod the other night. He has not a lot of money and needed transportation, so I talked it over with teresa and mom and we decided to goive the Corolla to Mike. Only shame is he has no desire, funds or knowhow to restore this car which it is definately deserving of and me thinks he will drive it till the wheels fall off. At least it is going to good use...Dano

S10

Thanks Lee, I figure I did okay, in the end I have about 2 grand in it. It has the 4.3L v-6 (262 cubic inches) so it will get out of its own way! The body and interior are about a 9+. The old Ranger was getting shot and figured to swap out. (95 was the last year of the inexpensive fuel pump, and with the throttle body rejejction it uses the thin intake gaskets (thicker ones on 96 and up were trouble for failing and mixing oil and coolant)). The 4.3 is essentially a small block Chervolet V8 with 2 cylinders cut off (bullet proof) I expect to keep this one a long time...Dano

Those cars are just youngsters. My father baught a mk1 escort in the early seventies, drove it for 31 years and sold it to a collector for exactly what he paid for it!
