BZ-S proximity fuze, Czech Republic

microplastic

Well-Known Member
Cutaway model of a Czech-made BZ-S proximity fuse. This fuze was used with 152 mm grenades, for example with the Dana weapon system. The detonator did not progress beyond the experimental stage and was never officially introduced into the army.

Nice Fuze Microplastic. Do you also have information about the ammunition used with Dana system?

Regards Chris

Hello,

unfortunately not. Findings from the internet:

152-EOF - HE
152-EOFd - HE long range
152-EPrSv - HE Anti-Tank

it ist possible, that the BZ-S fuze was used with the regular HE shells...

There are 2 types of holes on the fuse for the exhaust of air that flows through the turbine (the design of the air inlet seems to be the same
ad 1) longitudinal holes.
ad2) transverse holes .
The question is why, at what ... ?

Maybe to reduce the airflow and thus reduce the speed of the turbine... smaller opening, lower speed
Yes, there is a possibility. Although it is possible to trim the curve through electronics, both the onset and the values.
And if you look at the front part, it has a slightly different shape ...

The opening is actually at least 3 times larger on the later model. The rim just above the opening also disrupts the laminar flow over the holes (that is my theory, did not find written proof)
It is interesting that the mortar variant BZ-M already has the rim and horizontal groove on the drawings from the 1987 final project documentation. The BZ-S does not. Both variants in this document have different shape of the "skirt" than existing specimen.
