bullet puller for a boys round

I am in need of something to pull the bullet on a live boys round, I am ok having it as I have correct FAC but I really don't want anything that big live in my collection.

Any idea's please

Richard.

Have you tried any of the RFD's near you? York Guns and their other business at Dunnington may be able to advise. ( I think that I was the FEO that advised you re collecting a while ago)

Hello Richard,
I've used the standard RCBS kinetic hammer for years now for unloading light strikes, faulty re-loads etc with no trouble. It's not big enough for .50's of course. My gunsmith tried to test one to destruction on an anvil with no success! I don't know if they do a larger version?
Cheers,
Guy.

Richard,

Have you looked for any pull devices from all of the reloading manufactuers? Since the .50cal is so popular here I would think that there would be one for the .50 cal. now.

I use to have one for different bullets we were aloud to carry on duty and off. I was always told, however, to NEVER, NEVER attempt to do it to a Berdan Primer.

My good buddy did about 15 years or so and almost lost a finger. He was attempting to pull the bullet on a 9mm Largo (?)(Spanish?). If I were to find one for a .50 cal. would you want it if you think it would be the right size?

If you are handy with tools and such, and only need to pull one or two bullets, you can make an inertia puller from a simple piece of pipe. The 50 caliber bullets are heavy and it only takes a little inertia to get them started out of the case. I can give you more details if you want to try it.

That would be great Raymeketa, cheers

I normally use my kinetic hammer but like some have said they don't go up to .50 or .55 as this is. I will have to have something made up I don't normally go above .303 with my collection but when freebies come along it is hard to say no and I dont want any damage done to the bullet.

Here's a link to a thread on the IAA Forum that should help. If you need more information I'll be happy to try. The heavy 50 caliber bullets have so much inertia on their own that I've pulled some using a piece of plastic pipe from a carpet vacuum sweeper. That's how easy it is.

Yes Rick, Falcon made his own in his school shop. It is a skookum affair that would pull any medium caliber bullet or projectile ever made. I still wonder if his instructer knew what he working on.:crossedlips:

I'll tell you what, you find an already inerted .55 Boys, i'll buy it for you and you can send me the live one, seems an awful waste to ruin a piece of history,

I have a puller made for me by Falcon - fantastic. Comes with my complete recommend. Works perfectly on Boyes, and 50 cal also other larger rounds!
I agree with the comment on losing our history but that is not our fault but the governments who try and destroy it.
