british bomb steel shipping container ID

Hello everyone, Very interesting website. Although not a collector of ordinance per se, I do have an interest in military related articles. I've hopefully attached photos of a steel box obtained while I lived in the UK. I've searched but I've been unable to find any reference to the nomenclature on this box and am wondering if anyone knows what exactly it contained. The container is 27 1/2 " x 8" x 8" and the only markings on it are, as I hope you can see, bmb C263A mk I 1943. The 6 could possibly be a G. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated! All the best!

A quick glance through the forum and I see mention to the C263 being used for the 6pdr 7cwt - though I am not sure what the A stands for.

There are others on the site who are specialised in this area and maybe they can confirm this for you.

Welcome to the forum, enjoy your time here!!

regards Kev

see also this link http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/42864-Ammunition-Box-no-C320?highlight=c263

this one reveals that C263A is for 4 rounds of 6pdr 7cwt H.E. ammunition.

hope this helps!!
