British .276 Charger??? Japanese Charger???

MissingSomething

Well-Known Member
I had a good day at the small town gun show today and found a few "chargers". The nice WW1 brass .30-06 US and a 7.62x54 Russian... I also found a couple of 6.5 Japanese brass ones.... (1 marked Kynoch)....

But.....

A couple are a mystery and I would like some expert opinions...

The 1st one is suppose to be a .276 experimental... The silver one with the brass 6.5 chargers is the same length and width but is much shallower and with no "tabs" on the sides... It was advertised as Japanese????

The first one is definitely a Pattern '13 .276 inch charger, a nice find. I can't help with the second one though.

British made .256 inch Japanese chargers were made by a number of companies as well as Kynoch and come in brass, nickel and oil blacked steel.

I can post a list of makers if interested.

Thanks for the pictures and confirmation Tony... I know you would know.

I believe the chargers without tabs are for the Japanese type11 LMG.....Pete.

Thanks for the quess Pete. I did some checking and the Type 11 take the same charger as the Type 38 rifle.

I tried to place a 6.5 round in the charger and it didnt fit. A 7.7 rimmed also doesnt fit....

Here is a list of British .256 inch charger manufacturers with markings (from my book on British Arisakas)
