I present a known bomb incendiary MkI but with a small feature. It's provided with a plate with a tip. This is the first time that I see this item with this kit.

Further to Dave's posting, in this configuration the bomb is known as:
Bomb, Aircraft, Incendiary, 1 1/4 lb., Mk I and is an adaptation of the Land Service store
by adding the spike for fixing the bomb to a suitable part of the aircraft.

The ones I have seen, and the manual mentions it, have a dull red body. It is possible that the
the bomb shown is just an ordinary SOE issue :) swapped at some time with the RAF issue.
Can't be sure though.

Ron Bridges had a yellow one in his collection and along the seam that joined the can together was a stamped air ministey number, that example has been lost as not seen since Ron owned it..... Dave

Thanks Dave, any chance you might remember the number?

Sorry Norman, I was hopeing the example might have surfaced again when his collection was sold off but not seen it.... all members who are reading this post and have these check your examples for the stamping......Dave

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to make a wooden replica of the Bomb, Aircraft, Incendiary, 1 1/4 lb., Mk I to fit inside an aircraft, and so far its taken me all night to find a picture.... Can anyone help with accurate dimensions please.
Cheers
Gary

I think I have a design drawing, I will look tomorrow. You could of course find an old 'Brasso' tin and use that since that is what the were based on. The French fuze it uses is a bit more difficult to find.

Thanks Norman, that would be great. I don't think there is much chance of me finding an old Brasso tin. It will be easier to machine one out of wood and paint it.
Cheers
Gary

As promised. Ignore the label calling it by its original nomenclature of grenade.

Gary . You can buy the old type Brasso tins on ebay sometimes as they are collectable advertising . They shouldn't be more than £6-7 . You need the ones that are 4.5" body height from seam to seam & 2.1" wide . Hope this helps . Mike.

I have packed it fot the fair at chatham sunday will put it to one side and do some pics from memory it's smaller than the Inc tin...... Dave

Dave . They came in different sizes . It is possible to get one the same size but of course you need to check it . Mike.

Thanks Dave and Mike for the info. I think I have found the correct one on ebay, however I am slightly confused. The original pictures posted in this post show the length of the tin, between top and bottom joints as being 5" whereas the drawing shows this dimension as 4 3/16". Is the drawing incorrect or was there a variation between manufacturers???
Cheers
Gary

Gary . I've measured 2 of mine & they are 4.5" from seam to seam . If you include the top bit that either a cap or fuze screws into , that is domed & would make approx 5" total height . Mike

Gary, allowing for parallax effects of the tape behind the can and the position of the camera, and ignoring the loose red base attachment (which seems to have dropped down at a slight angle), the measurement looks pretty close to the drawing dimension, i.e. 4.5".
