The .450"x 3 1/4" was a very popular cartridge for big-game shooting, especially in Africa. The round was introduced about 1870 I think, first with a rolled-brass case, then the solid drawn case. Although originally a black-powder load, it survived well into the nitro-powder era. Nearly all the British cartridge makers made it, and also a lot of the European ammunition makers, especially the German ones.
