Hello,
here is the base fuze for the V-2 rocket. There is the original stencilling on it which says " Bd.Z.5 "
In my original documentation about the V-2 rocket (Das Geraet A4, Baureihe B, Geraetebeschreibung, 1945) is made the statement, that the base fuze nomenclature is " Bodenzuender BZ 3" and the nomenclature of the nose fuze for the V-2 is " Kopfzuender KZ 3).
Does enybody knows if there were different fuzes for the V2 rocket?
Enjoy!

Hi Erhard
I think we both have the same manual on the V2 rocket , but what im unsure about is the fuze was only a nose fuze , very similar to an artillery round (pointed) why also a base fuze

Operation Backfire - Note on Base Fuze

...and how does it work?

According to the report on OP BACKFIRE (British tests of the V2) [Copy in TNA Kew] "The base fuze consists essentially of two inertia switches set at right angles to each other, one in a plane at right angles to the major axis of the rocket and the other parallel to this axis. The switches are connected in parallel, and this combination is in series with the supply and electric detonator which is situated in the centre of the base fuze. The fuze circuit is finally completed through an electrical unit in the control compartment."

...why also a base fuze?

In case the nose fuze is trashed before functioning at the target.

Hi Everyone
Here is a complete V2 fuze with what i think is Erhards base fuze fitted in a compartment.this is the only picture i have of this fuze , which was taken using a polaroid camera.
Ive managed to read the label inside the box it reads
KopfzunderKz 5 Mit gewindering (with wiring?)
Bodenzunder BDZ 5
