Cutaway model of a Russian AO-10 clusterbomb from the fifies of the last century. Thirty of these are packed in a RBK 500-375 AO-10 clusterbomb cassette. The AO-10 is used against personel and unarmoured targets.
The AO-10 bomb body is made of cast iron. The tail is made of pressed sheet steel and fixated to the bomb body by means of two rivets that have been welded to the tail by the head of the rivet.
In the front end of the bomb body a threaded steel cover is placed that houses the booster charge and the AM-A b/v fuze.
The AM-A b/v impact fuze exist of a steel body to which the steel housing for the duplex detonator is screwed in the base. On the inside of the fuze body a black bakelite guidance cylinder for the firing pin needle is placed. The firing pin/needle has a paper thin sheet steel flange in top which rests on the top shoulder of the bakelite cylinder. Upon impact the air above the flange is pressed inward bending the flange downward , pushing the needle into the mercury fulminate (gray) detonator. This will detonate the booster , which will detonate the main charge in the bomb body. The fuze has no further safety mechanisms.
Weight : 8,97 Kg
Complete length (with fuze) : 385 mm
Diameter bomb body : 90 mm
Diameter tail : 120 mm
Explosive charge : 0,53 Kg
Lethal radius : 18 mtrs
