Anyone working in Libya at the moment?

I'm working on cataloguing all of the various ordnance (as well as small arms, light weapons, and ammunition) that has shown up there since the start of the conflict. I'd love to have a chat to anyone who is in country.

I'm aiming to get there myself later this year and do some field research.

It would be intresting is there was stuff used leftover from WW2.

I saw some of that in photos. There were alot of Italian Caracano rifles around. There was also photos of rebels with belts of .50 Vickers. I didn't see and photos of .50 Vickers MGs but they may have been there.

Definitely some hold-overs from WWII around. The Carcanos were getting such use earlier in the conflict that many of the cartridges were being re-primed with powdered match heads.

.50 Vickers ammo as noted, as well aa a handful of SMLEs of various vintages. Saw a Kar 98k and possibly a Berthier as well.

As several of you know, I am writing an extensive report on SAA currently seen in Libya. If anyone has any headstamp photos, general or packaging photos, documents, or information they think might be of value, I would appreciate it if you could contact me. You can get me at nic -at- securityscholar -dot- com -dot- au. I've got a week or so to finish up a first draft, so any new material would be appreciated ASAP!

Cheers,

RA
