Any idea what this tin was for ?

Tony has essentially hit the nail on the head.....sorry for the pun. My memory isn't sharp on this one but I believe the fixing kits were primarily an Engineer store. The cartridges came in several different strengths, each denoted by a colour. I seem to remember there were fixing kits for brick, steel and wood. I have seen some similar cartridges since, and those were crimped like blanks. TCB is the monogram for the firm that assembled the kit in October 1981. I saw some of these kits around that time (Initial Acceptance inspection?) but remember nothing about them. Since the tin is marked E, it might imply that there were other kits A to D but I'm sorry, I can't remember. I think there were 15 such tins packed in an H83 ammo container.

It is part of a "Fixing Kit, Supplementary L37A2" one of a range of kits and cartridges issued for use with a Hilti DXA41 powder actuated projectile driver (Kit Powder Actuated Projectile Unit Driver Cased L2A1 - in British military terminology).
The tin contains
Qty 40 M6 Threaded Demolition Charge Fixing Pins Short. These are held in a L404A1 container marked with the letter E.
