There is this little shop near me that seems to have interesting things whenever I stop by.

He is a projectile, 2.3" diameter, about 8 3/8" long. It has a plug in the base with what I presume is a date: "8 - 90". The "0" did not photograph well.

Thoughts and observations welcome. BTW, still working on removing the plug. It is sorta rusty.

Looks like a 6pr projectile, but not sure about the plug.
 
I Have one just like it. Plug could be left-hand thread.

Diesel, Kroil, good penetrating oil, or a 50/50 mixture of Dot3 brake fluid and quality acetone. My friend swears by the latter for freeing frozen firearms screws.
 
I am resurrecting this thread because there is closure. Turns out that this is a Hotchkiss 57mm. Note the fuse placement. What I thought was some sort of shipping plug is in fact the fuse carrier. T
