Amm. Box cal. .50 m2

Ran across this "original" ammo can at a yard sale. First one I've seen(to buy) that had not been relabeled. Welded seams vs stamped. Had been in Grandpa's shed all these years, so they said. An impromptu tool box. Luckily, it seems to have spent the bulk of the time on a shelf.
No discernible dates. Might be '52 for the relabeled one. Nothing stamped anywhere that I could see.

Nice boxes Slick,if you are referring to the 52 on the end of the lot number as the year 1952,I'm afraid it's not,I fell into the same trap a while ago with a US ammo box and someone on here put me right on that one( It could have been Ray?).
Do either of them have the US flaming grenade ordnance logo on the ends?

As you can see, they both have the flaming bomb. And yea, I wasn't at all sure about the dating.

Hi Slick,
I have a 30 cal box with this logo and canco(within a oval) above it,I was always led to believe that this logo was last used sometime in the 50's/60's as the US military ownership mark,I could well be very wrong about this,so perhaps some one out there could correct/confirm and perhaps there is info on the manufacturers-Belmont,Modern & Canco which could narrow the dates down on these boxes?
