American 3Pdr Projectile IDs

Seems like I'm asking a lot of questions these days.................

I have two 3Pdr projectiles and if I was able to see enough of the stamping on their bases, they are both American Ordinance Co. The left is a 1900 and the right is 1902.

Is my ID correct and do I have the correct base fuzes for them?

Not the difference between the two drive bands. Unusual for the same manufacturer and only two years apart, huh?

I think I'm going to need a case for one of them. I either missed placed the case or dreamed I had two.
:eek:oh:

The driving band on the blue one is very unusual. I have seen a lot of 3 Pdrs. but never a band like that. Actually, I've never seen a band like that on anything!

It is a standard design on American 3 and I think 6 pdrs from about 1890 to 1900. It is a version of the Hotchkiss rounded three ribbed band used on their patented projectile of that size and larger. This design likely got around the patent and was likely an improvement.

Shown is a 37mm used by Norway in a 37 x 307 case. This band shape was a Hotchkiss standard on HV & large caliber.

I've seen them with the three ridges in the bands, but never seen one where the ridges look like they come out to a sharp edge, and look so wedge shaped.

Yep, they are kind of wedge shaped with sharp edges. I can't find any referance on it. I guess as long as I get a 1900 American case, I should be good.
