Can anyone help me with ID on an 8mm lebel round

head stamp reads
\ ART . D /
3 ..........03
/ ADl . R \

anything at including powder type/weight if possible

thanks
Richard

"ART.D" means it is a D type case, and made in the third trimester of 1903. It was made at the Cartoucherie de St.Douai (ADI) and the metal was supplied by "R", Usine des Trefilerie et Laminoirs de Havre at Rusines. Bullet weight is 12.8 grams (198 grains) and the charge was 3 grams (46 grains) of BN-F powder.

All the 8 lebel cartridges are generally with marks
ART.M ( with M bullet) and ART.D (with D bullet)

Best Regards, Dan

what is the difference please with the M and the D bullet and does anyone have a photo or a description of BN-F powder.

Thanks
Richard.

French powder BN F is evolution from V poudre created in 1884 by ingenior Paul Veille.
(coton powder mixed vith ether/alcool first time) Nitrocellulose.
2, ether alcool update for Amylic alcool and Aniline
3, Aniline update by Diphnylamine in 1904.
Name powder V was updates by name poudre B
Secret perhaps for name of Veille, and B refference to French General Boulanger
who preside the adoption for 8 Lebel materials.
It' s traitement with lead who give the argent color to the powder.
