73mm high-explosive round OG-15V, Russia

microplastic

Well-Known Member
Cutaway model of a Russian 73mm high-explosive fragmentation round OG-15V. The OG-15V is fired from the 2A28 GROM low pressure smoothbore gun used on the BMP-1. The round consists of the GO-2 nose impact fuze with safety cap , the iron cast body, the aluminum tube with 8 fixed fins with tracer and the attached propellant stub cartridge.
The cartridge has a blue stripe so that it cannot be confused with the PG-15V HEAT cartridge.

The OG-9 grenade with the OG-15P cadrige is the round OG-15V

Firing: the cartridge percussion primer receives an electrical impulse and ignites the igniter in the center of the cadrige, which ignites the propellant charge. The expanding hot gases ignite the tracer and push the grenade out of the tube.

When fired, setback forces the striker sleeve (1) downwards and releases the upper safety ball (2). When the setback stops, the sleeve spring pushes the striker sleeve (1) forward to the underside of the striker's head and releases the four lower safety balls (3). The fuze is armed. The sleeve has a zigzag path that slows its movement for 0.01–0.02 sec. This ensures that the fuze is armed at a safe distance from the vehicle/gun. On impact, the striker drives the firing pin into the primer detonator (4), initiating the booster (5) and then the detonator (6). The detonator initiates the main charge. On side impact, the brass ring (7) is thrown to the side, pushing the primer detonator housing (8) upward and push the primer (4) into the firing pin.

Caliber: 73mm

grenade weight 3.6kg
muzzle velocety 290m/s
max fire range: 4500m
effective direct fire range: 1000m

Very nice cutaway and a perfect description.
I have one myself, but the fuze is missing. If someone has a spare fuze, please let me know.
