Found a 270 48 dated headstamp - look here http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/A2671.jpg but still there should not be a 1943 date!

I'll check my other one, I will have to dig it out but it will be interesting to see if it is the same date.

Tony, a 49 dated one would at least be more realistic than a 43 dated one.

I,ve had this site as a bookmark for ages,in the section 100 odd years of 7.65X54R they still state that 270 did not manufacture this round,although there is now a 270 in the box to "click on" but nothing happens! Erik do you know the name of the factory & location? If you do I can at least stop trying to find it on web sites that can't make their minds up about this!

270 was the following up L marked (czarist time) and later became the 60 code - you can read the whole story in the 7,62x54R.net . Probably start from here http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinAmmoID01.htm and scroll down almost 3/4 - there you have the 270 48.
