6 Inch

6 inch 001.jpg6 inch 002.jpg I can't decide to keep this and restore it, or if it's not worth my time. That depends on what it is exactly I guess. It's described as being from the HMCS Ontario or the HMCS Quebec (HMCS Uganda during WW2). Both these ships were armed with BL 6 inch Mark XXIII guns which, IMO, seem too modern for this projectile.
It is 150mm diameter, 532mm(21inch appox.) height without fuze, and a 17mm(5/8") driving band about 22mm from base. I thought possibly for a 6 Inch 26cwtor 6 Inch 50, but really cant be too sure. I found a picture of a 6 Inch how shell that looks similar, but no dimensions or what mark shell. Any information is always greatly appreciated. SHAKY

If you lay it down, it will most likely have all of the ID info inscribed in the base saying what it is and what gun/s it is made for.

It has what is called the "economy" driving band, which was used in WWI to make projectiles as fast and cheap as possible, and the band looks more howitzer than Navy. Some 6 inch were also referred to as 80 Pdr.

Thanks Hazord for the help. I had looked over the projo for markings and none on the bottom. The driving band looked a little strange too. Thanks for explaining this to me and confirming my suspicion that it is not WW2 naval. I'll have to search a little more 6 Inch How and/or 60pdr.

Cheers, SHAKY

Wait a minute. You've tricked me. I have a 60 pounder. It is 5 inch not 6. Now to research 80 POUNDER:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

I understand Shaky, you are used to telling everyone you have 6 inches, and you really have 5. You said it was 150mm, which is 2mm under 6 inches. So is it really only 127mm diameter?

Size is subject to change at any time. And we are talking diameter not length.:tinysmile_fatgrin_t To be more accurate on the measurements, the diameter of this is a bit over 149mm. And is not RML 80pounder ? All I see for 80pr is a completely different old beast than this projo. My 149mm isnt "studly" enough for ol' RML. There are quite a few different 149mm projos of this size and era, I'm just trying to wrap my head around it all. Need dimentions, not just pictures.
