Hi to all,
picked up this 50 cal case t'other day,it's a Israeli to U.K contract but has the head lacquerd red...I think we can rule out experimental as I would have though experimental would stay in Israel and not sent for a contract order and we can 100% rule out civilian re loaders markings on this one.
Possible id for a particular load?.....any ideas chaps?

Cheers
Tony

The only one I know with a full red shellcase base is a pressure test proof shot. To my regret I have no picture.

Many thanks DJH,
I don't think this one is a proof as it was issued/used in service

Cheers

Tony, I don't know the answer to your question but....and the colour and style of marking seem to be remarkably similar!....here are a couple of pictures of 5.56mm marked with red lacquer for issue in Northern Ireland during the late 1970's. We weren't producing 5.56mm for our own use back then and our ammunition in this calibre was bought in from the US and Belgium. The ammo was marked in this way so that any fired cases could be identified as belonging to the Security Forces as opposed to the IRA. I'm not suggesting that this is why your .50" is marked in this way, I'm just pointing out the similarity. Jim.
